CCF Three Peaks Challenge

The Coronavirus pandemic has brought many challenges to our way of life since lockdown was introduced late March - but it has also brought out the best in many people who have sought out innovative ways to contribute actively to the world in which we live and to respond to this truly global challenge.

All charities are struggling at this time. The need to “stay at home”; “stay alert” and “socially distance” have resulted in massive challenges for the many events that go on up and down the country every year which would in normal times raise significant sums enabling charities to fulfil their work. The cancellation of the London Marathon alone is estimated to have costs charities c.£68m in lost revenue.

That is why the Combined Cadet Force at Sutton Grammar School has launched the Three Peaks Challenge, in which cadets (current and former) as well as the Adult Volunteers will compete in virtual teams to traverse the equivalent distance of the Yorkshire Three Peaks - aiming to hit not only the equivalent distance of The Three Peaks (39.2km) but also the exact elevation of the route (1585m - not so easy in our low lying part of the Country!).

The Cadets are raising money whilst doing so for their chosen charity - SSAFA : The Armed Forces Charity (see https://YouTube.com/watch?v=oFmSDzxO9Zk ). This charity provides lifelong support to serving men and women as well as veterans from our Armed Forces and we are delighted to see our original target of £500.00 being reached in the first few days. As a result we have now increased our target to match the target elevation gain - £1585.00 or a £1.00 per metre!

Of course the more money we can raise the better. SSAFA has launched its own Covid Emergency Fund in attempt to provide support to the many thousands of services people who face an uncertain future as a result of the economic consequences of the pandemic.

The more money we can raise the better which is why we are reaching out to the whole Sutton Grammar community for support. If you are able in any way to show your encouragement for the Cadets in this most worthy endeavour then you can do so by visiting our just giving page to be found at:

We thank you most sincerely for anything you can give.
